Exam PL-200 and the Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate certification retired on 31 August 2026: you can no longer sit it. What remains current is everything you know about Dataverse, Power Apps and Power Automate; the useful question now is which active certification fits your role: the developer path if you extend the platform with code, AB-620 if you build agents.
Do not follow an old plan as if the exam still existed
Historical guides can teach configuration and functional consulting, but any page still inviting you to book PL-200 is out of date. Check the official catalog to identify the active credential that best reflects your role before investing more hours.
Which part of your study is still useful
Keep data modeling in Dataverse, canvas and model-driven apps, flows, security, environments, solutions and ALM. Add the ability to discover requirements, explain decisions and measure the result of an automation.
Build a small solution: capture a request in Power Apps, store it in Dataverse, automate the approval and limit access by role. Export the solution between environments and document the process: it is the common thread of both the developer path and AB-620.
How to choose the alternative: developer or AB-620
If your profile is becoming technical and you write extensions, the natural continuation is Power Platform Developer Associate. Its exam is changing: PL-400 closes registration on 16 October 2026 and AB-400 replaces it from that day, as explained in PL-400 is becoming AB-400. If your work revolves around agents, intelligent automation and Copilot Studio, look at AB-620 (AI Agent Builder). The comparison AB-620 vs PL-400 explains when each one fits.

Frequently asked questions
When did PL-200 retire?
On 31 August 2026, together with the Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate certification.
Does PL-400 replace PL-200?
Not exactly: the developer certification requires writing code (C#, TypeScript) and its exam moves from PL-400 to AB-400 in October 2026. It is the natural continuation for a functional consultant who already extends the platform; for profiles centred on agents, AB-620 fits better.
Is my PL-200 certification still valid?
Yes, it stays on your Microsoft Learn transcript with its validity; what you cannot do is renew it when it expires.
