AB-900 validates the fundamentals needed to support, secure and govern an AI-enabled Microsoft 365 environment. It combines Microsoft 365 services and objects, identity and security, data protection, Microsoft 365 Copilot and basic agent administration.
It is an entry-level certification for administrators and IT pros. It does not require building agents with code, but you must distinguish admin centers, licenses, permissions, controls and monitoring tools in everyday scenarios.
Data protection and governance is the main block at 35 to 40 percent. Microsoft 365 services and security is 30 to 35 percent, while Copilot and agent administration is 25 to 30 percent. Study each capability from the requirement it solves, not as a list of names.
Practice a full journey: assign access, identify which data Copilot can retrieve, apply Entra and Purview controls, investigate oversharing in SharePoint and review agent adoption and activity. That connects the three domains in one scenario.

It is the closest current path after MS-900 retired on March 31, 2026, but it shifts the focus toward Copilot, agents, Purview, and AI governance.
Coding is not required. Familiarity with Microsoft 365 users, groups, Teams, SharePoint, identity, and permissions is useful, together with practice making basic administrative decisions.
With basic Microsoft 365 experience, two to four weeks is often realistic. Allow four to six weeks if Microsoft Entra and Purview are new to you.
