The GitHub Copilot certification (GH-300) validates that you can use Copilot to improve development productivity, quality and security: responsible AI use, Copilot features in the IDE, the CLI and github.com, agent mode and MCP, how Copilot handles data, prompt engineering, testing, and privacy and content exclusion settings. The skills outline was updated on 7 August 2026.

Developers, DevOps engineers, administrators and technical leads who use GitHub Copilot, with GitHub fundamentals and experience in at least one programming language.
The GitHub Copilot certification (GH-300) checks that you can use Copilot to code better and safely: which features it has in the IDE, the CLI and github.com, how it handles your data, how to write good prompts and how to configure privacy for an organization.
The skills outline was updated on 7 August 2026 and has six areas: use Copilot responsibly (15–20%), Copilot features (25–30%), data and architecture (10–15%), prompt engineering and context crafting (10–15%), developer productivity (10–15%), and privacy, content exclusions and safeguards (10–15%).
The newer features carry a lot of weight: GitHub Copilot CLI, agent mode, Copilot Edits, MCP, agent sessions and sub-agents, Copilot code review, Spaces, Spark, instructions files and reusable prompt files. Administration too: organization policies, audit log events and managing subscriptions with the REST API.
How it works inside: how the prompt is built, what the proxy and post-processing do, the lifecycle of a suggestion and the limitations of LLMs. And privacy: content exclusions, the filter for suggestions matching public code, and who owns generated code.
If you studied with material from before August 2026, start with what changed: the CLI, agent mode and MCP are now named objectives. The GitHub Copilot documentation on docs.github.com is the main source, and it changes often.
Start free to check your level and practice by area. Questions follow the exam format: multiple choice with one correct answer, and multiple response.
