Google Cloud
Associate Data Practitioner is the Google Cloud associate-level certification for people who secure and manage data on Google Cloud. It validates that you can prepare and ingest data (ETL versus ELT, transfer and extraction tools, data formats and choosing the right storage), analyze and present it (SQL queries in BigQuery, Colab Enterprise notebooks, dashboards in Looker and Looker Studio, and BigQuery ML models), orchestrate simple pipelines (Dataflow, Dataproc, Cloud Composer, Dataform, scheduled queries, Pub/Sub and Eventarc) and manage data (least-privilege IAM, Cloud Storage classes and lifecycle, backup and replication, and encryption keys with Cloud KMS). We follow version 1.0 of the official exam guide.

Your company already runs mature Apache Beam pipelines that clean and aggregate order data before it reaches the warehouse. The data is moving to BigQuery, where reserved capacity must be kept mainly for the analysts' concurrent queries. You want to keep the existing transformation logic. Which approach should you use?

Data analysts, early-career data engineers, BI analysts and practitioners who work with BigQuery, Cloud Storage and Looker on Google Cloud. Google recommends 6+ months of experience working with data on Google Cloud and a basic understanding of cloud concepts (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS). No prerequisites.
Associate Data Practitioner is the Google Cloud associate-level certification for people who secure and manage data on Google Cloud. The exam checks that you can use Google Cloud data services across the whole journey: ingestion, transformation, pipeline management, analysis, machine learning and visualization, with BigQuery at the center. It does not ask you to write complex code; it asks you to pick the right service, format, storage and access control for each scenario.
We follow version 1.0 of the official exam guide, which has four sections: data preparation and ingestion (30%), data analysis and presentation (27%), data pipeline orchestration (18%) and data management (25%).
Ingestion and analysis: telling ETL, ELT and ETLT apart, choosing between Storage Transfer Service, Transfer Appliance, BigQuery Data Transfer Service, Database Migration Service, Dataflow and Cloud Data Fusion, assessing data quality and cleaning data, distinguishing CSV, JSON, Parquet and Avro, and choosing between Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Firestore, Bigtable and Spanner with the right location type (zonal, regional, dual-region or multi-region). In analysis: SQL queries in BigQuery for reports, Colab Enterprise notebooks, Looker versus Looker Studio dashboards, simple LookML parameters, and BigQuery ML and AutoML models, including Google LLMs through a remote connection in BigQuery, inference and Vertex AI Model Registry.
Pipelines and management: choosing between Dataproc, Dataflow, Cloud Data Fusion, Cloud Composer and Dataform, scheduling queries with BigQuery, Cloud Scheduler or Cloud Composer, tracking a job in the Dataflow job UI, reviewing Cloud Logging and Cloud Monitoring, comparing Workflows and Dataproc Workflow Templates, and event-driven ingestion from Pub/Sub to BigQuery with Eventarc triggers to Cloud Run or Cloud Run functions. In management: least-privilege IAM and basic versus predefined roles, uniform access in Cloud Storage, sharing data with BigQuery sharing (formerly Analytics Hub), storage classes and lifecycle rules, archiving, backup and replication for Cloud Storage and Cloud SQL, and CMEK, CSEK and Google-managed keys with Cloud KMS.
Google recommends 6+ months of experience working with data on Google Cloud. With that background, four to six weeks are usually enough: read the official exam guide, follow the Data Practitioner learning path in Google Skills, and practice in your own project: load a CSV and a Parquet file into BigQuery, create and evaluate a BigQuery ML model, build a Looker Studio dashboard, schedule a query and set a lifecycle rule on a bucket. Spend more time on data preparation and ingestion, which alone makes up 30% of the exam.
