SC-100 (Cybersecurity Architect Expert) validates that you can turn a cybersecurity strategy into concrete capabilities: design solutions aligned with Microsoft best practices (ransomware resiliency, MCRA, MCSB, Cloud Adoption Framework and Well-Architected), design security operations, identity, privileged access and compliance capabilities, design the security of hybrid and multicloud infrastructure (posture, endpoints, SaaS, PaaS and IaaS, network and Security Service Edge) and design the security of Microsoft 365, applications, data and AI. Skills outline in force since 21 October 2026.

Cybersecurity architects with experience implementing or administering identity and access, platform protection, security operations, data and AI security, application security and hybrid and multicloud infrastructure. The certification also requires one of three: Identity and Access Administrator Associate (SC-300), Security Operations Analyst Associate (SC-200) or Cloud and AI Security Engineer Associate.
SC-100 is Microsoft's expert-level security exam, for the Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert certification. It does not ask how to configure a product; it asks which design, capability or control to recommend in a business situation: ransomware resiliency, Zero Trust, compliance, hybrid and multicloud posture, and the security of identities, applications, data and AI.
The outline in force from 21 October 2026 has four areas: design solutions that align with security best practices and priorities (20–25%), design security operations, identity and compliance capabilities (25–30%), design security solutions for infrastructure (25–30%) and design security solutions for applications and data (20–25%).
Microsoft's frameworks: the Microsoft Cybersecurity Reference Architectures (MCRA), the Microsoft Cloud Security Benchmark (MCSB), the Cloud Adoption Framework, the Well-Architected Framework, Azure landing zones, the Zero Trust adoption framework and the ransomware and privileged access guidance. And the products: Microsoft Defender XDR, Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Sentinel, Security Copilot, Microsoft Entra ID (Conditional Access, PIM, Identity Governance, Global Secure Access), Microsoft Purview, Intune, Azure Policy and Azure Arc.
Questions describe a company with business, compliance and architecture requirements and ask for the recommendation that meets all of them. Many are yes/no hotspots, multiple response or long case studies.
Microsoft requires one of these certifications first: [SC-300](/en/certifications/sc-300), [SC-200](/en/certifications/sc-200) or Cloud and AI Security Engineer Associate. With that base and experience designing solutions, four to six weeks is usually enough: follow the Microsoft Learn path for SC-100 and read MCRA, MCSB and the Zero Trust guidance, because a good share of the questions are answered from those documents.
