Google Cloud
Professional Security Operations Engineer is the Google Cloud professional certification for people who protect systems and environments with Google security tooling: detecting, monitoring, analyzing, investigating and responding to threats. It validates that you can run the platform (telemetry, Content Hub, IAM and access for human and non-human identities), manage data (Bindplane ingestion, parsers, UDM normalization, entity context and threat intelligence), hunt threats with searches, retrohunts and GTI, engineer detections in Google SecOps and Security Command Center mapped to MITRE ATT&CK, respond to incidents with playbooks and case management, and build dashboards and health alerts. We follow version 2.0 of the official exam guide, which applies to exams taken from 24 November 2026 and reflects new features in Google SecOps, Security Command Center and Google Threat Intelligence, including AI capabilities such as the Triage and Investigation Agent.

Your organization has activated Security Command Center and wants Google SecOps SOAR playbooks to list findings and change their mute and state through the Google Security Command Center integration. You created a custom IAM role with only the required securitycenter permissions and a service account that holds it. Security policy forbids storing long-lived secrets in the integration. How should you configure authentication?

Professional Security Operations Engineer is the Google Cloud professional certification for people who protect systems and environments with Google security tooling: detecting, monitoring, analyzing, investigating and responding to threats against infrastructure, applications and data. The exam centers on Google Security Operations (SecOps), with its SIEM and SOAR, Security Command Center (SCC) and Google Threat Intelligence (GTI), and version 2.0 adds the use of AI for hunting, detection and investigation, such as the Triage and Investigation Agent.
We follow version 2.0 of the official exam guide, which applies to exams taken from 24 November 2026 and has six sections: platform operations (13%), data management (20%), threat hunting (18%), detection engineering (20%), incident response (18%) and observability (11%).
Platform and data: prioritizing telemetry sources (SCC, GTI, Cloud Logging, Chrome Enterprise), integrating Content Hub tools, UDM and stats searches, authentication and authorization with IAM roles and conditions, service accounts and API access for automations, Cloud Audit Logs and Workforce Identity Federation. On the data side: ingestion pipelines with Bindplane or direct ingestion of SCC findings, evaluating and extending parsers, UDM normalization, labels, ingestion costs, event versus entity data, aliasing, and loading IOCs into the Entity Context Graph.
Hunting, detection and response: queries to find anomalous activity, hypotheses built from GTI and attack paths, retrohunts over historical data and entity risk scores; YARA-L rules with risk values and data tables, composite detections, SCC detectors (Event Threat Detection, Container Threat Detection, Cloud Run Threat Detection) and MITRE ATT&CK coverage. In response: containment, forensic evidence and root cause analysis, SOAR playbooks with integrations, notifications and custom transformers, and the case lifecycle with SLAs and escalation. Plus observability: dashboards, reports, health metrics, Cloud Monitoring alerts and silent source detection.
Google recommends 3+ years of security industry experience, including 1+ years using Google Cloud security tooling. With that background, six to eight weeks are usually enough: read the official exam guide, follow the Google Skills learning path, and practice in a Google SecOps environment: ingest a log source, run a UDM search, write a YARA-L rule and its retrohunt, and build a playbook that updates the finding in SCC. Spend more time on data management and detection engineering, which together make up 40% of the exam.
