Your company runs SQL Server instances in its own data center, in retail stores and on another public cloud provider. You need a single inventory of these instances in Azure and the ability to query them with Azure Resource Graph, for example to list the instances that run on Linux. What should you do?

Database administrators experienced with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines (Windows and Linux) and on-premises SQL Server, fluent in T-SQL for administrative tasks. No prerequisite certification.
DP-300 (Exam DP-300: Administering Microsoft Azure SQL Solutions) is the exam for the Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate certification. It checks that you can administer relational databases in the cloud, on-premises and in hybrid setups with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines (Windows and Linux) and on-premises SQL Server: deploy and migrate them, secure them, watch their performance, automate day-to-day tasks and keep them available.
The skills outline in force from 27 October 2026 has five areas: plan and implement data platform resources (15–20%), implement a secure environment (20–25%), monitor, configure, and optimize database resources (20–25%), configure and manage automation of tasks (15–20%), and plan and configure a high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) environment (20–25%).
Platform and migration: choosing between Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance and SQL Server on VMs from the requirements, use cases for Azure Arc-enabled SQL Server and Azure SQL Database in Microsoft Fabric, table partitioning, sharding, data compression, scaling, and online and offline migrations. Security: Microsoft Entra ID authentication, least-privilege permissions in T-SQL, TDE, Always Encrypted (including secure enclaves), firewall rules, private links and service endpoints, data classification, auditing, dynamic data masking, ledger and row-level security.
Performance: baselines, database watcher, Extended Events, Query Store, blocking, DMVs, indexes and statistics, execution plans, automatic tuning, Resource Governor and intelligent query processing. Automation: SQL Server Agent jobs, elastic jobs, ARM and Bicep templates, Azure PowerShell and Azure CLI. HA/DR: strategy from RPO and RTO, backups and point-in-time restore, long-term retention, active geo-replication, failover groups, Always On availability groups, failover cluster instances and log shipping.
Microsoft requires no prior certification, but it assumes you already administer SQL Server and write T-SQL. With that background, four to six weeks are usually enough: follow the Microsoft Learn path for DP-300, set up a test Azure SQL database and a Managed Instance, and practise backups, Query Store and failover groups. If you come from [DP-900](/en/certifications/dp-900) or [AZ-104](/en/certifications/az-104), part of the way is already done.

You have 100 minutes to answer; Microsoft recommends allowing 120 minutes of seat time for instructions and comments. It does not publish the exact number of questions: most of its exams have between 40 and 60. Our mock exam uses 50 questions in 100 minutes.
You need 700 out of 1,000, like every other Microsoft certification exam.
The fee depends on the country; in the United States Microsoft associate exams cost 165 USD. CertifyDeck does not sell the exam, only the preparation: you can start free and full access is a one-time payment.
