Built for people at the start of a career in AI solution development. It needs conceptual knowledge of AI solutions in Azure, basic Python syntax and programming techniques, and familiarity with Azure resources.
AI-901 is the current exam for the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals certification; AI-900 was retired in 2026. It is aimed at people starting out in AI solution development and, unlike its predecessor, it goes beyond concepts: more than half the exam is about building simple applications and agents with Microsoft Foundry.
The outline has two blocks: identify AI concepts and capabilities (40–45%) and implement AI solutions by using Microsoft Foundry (55–60%). Microsoft asks for conceptual knowledge of AI on Azure, basic Python and familiarity with Azure resources.
For concepts: the six responsible AI principles (fairness, reliability and safety, privacy and security, inclusiveness, transparency and accountability), how generative models work, how to choose a model and its deployment options, and the common workloads: generative AI and agents, text analysis, speech, vision and information extraction.
For the hands-on part: writing good system and user prompts, deploying a model and testing it in the Foundry portal, building a chat client with the SDK, creating and testing an agent, and building simple text, speech, vision and information extraction applications with Azure Speech and Azure Content Understanding.
If you already write some Python, two to three weeks is usually enough; if not, spend a few days reading simple code first, because the exam shows snippets and asks what they do. Do the Microsoft Learn exercises in the Foundry portal: that helps most with the larger block.

Yes. AI-900 was retired and AI-901 is the current exam for the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals certification. The outline is different: it includes building applications and agents with Microsoft Foundry.
Microsoft asks for basic Python syntax and programming techniques. You will not write long programs, but you need to understand code snippets that use the Foundry SDK.
Microsoft fundamentals certifications do not expire, unlike associate and expert certifications, which are renewed every year.
Yes. You can start free, with no credit card, and read the explanation for each question before deciding whether you need full access.
No. They are original questions based on Microsoft's public objectives and documentation; we do not use leaked exam content.
Microsoft sets the price per country. USD 99 list price (varies by country; confirm on Pearson VUE when booking). CertifyDeck does not sell the exam, only the preparation: you can start for free and full access is a one-off fee per certification.
Microsoft does not publish an exact number; its exams usually have between 40 and 60 questions. Our timed mock exam mirrors that length and the official domain weights.
You need a scaled score of 700 out of 1000. The scale does not map to a fixed percentage of correct answers, so aim for consistent results above 80% on unseen mock exams before booking.
Yes. Microsoft offers AI-901 in Spanish as well as English. On CertifyDeck every question, option and explanation is available in both languages, keeping the official English terminology.
It is a good free starting point, but it is short and repeats the same items. A practice test with hundreds of original Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals questions, timed mock exams and practice by domain tells you where you fail and whether you keep the level under time pressure.
