The core of the role (designing complete solutions and justifying trade-offs) is still essential; what changes is how to prove it: with an active credential aligned to your specialization and with an architecture portfolio.
What the retirement of PL-600 means
PL-600 cannot be booked or renewed. Credentials earned before the date stay on the transcript under Microsoft's policy, but it makes no sense to start a course now that promises this certification.
Where the architect role is heading
Microsoft has pointed to Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect as a partial replacement on certain partner paths. Partial is the important word: it is not exactly equivalent to PL-600 and adds a different focus. Check its current requirements before changing path.
A Power Platform architect still needs fit-gap analysis, data and security design, integration, ALM, governance, testing and go-live. That base is covered, from different angles, by the developer certification, whose exam moves from PL-400 to AB-400 in October 2026, and by AB-620 for agent solutions.
How to prove your skills without PL-600
Prepare an architecture case with requirements, constraints, a diagram, a security model, an integration strategy and a deployment plan. Document why you rule out other options and how you would control cost, performance, support and organizational change.
