Built for people starting with Azure: IT professionals, developers, data profiles, students and business people who need to understand the cloud. No prior Azure experience is required.
AZ-900 (Microsoft Azure Fundamentals) checks that you understand the cloud and Azure at concept level: what each service is, what it is for and when it fits. It does not ask you to configure anything or write commands. It is the usual starting point towards certifications such as [AZ-104](/certifications/az-104).
The outline has three blocks: cloud concepts (25–30%), Azure architecture and services (35–40%) and Azure management and governance (30–35%). The exam lasts 45 minutes and the passing score is 700.
For cloud concepts: the shared responsibility model, public, private and hybrid cloud, the consumption-based model and the differences between IaaS, PaaS and SaaS. For architecture: regions, availability zones, subscriptions and management groups, compute types, virtual networking, storage options and identity with Microsoft Entra ID.
For governance: cost factors and calculators, Azure Policy, resource locks, Microsoft Purview, deployment tools (portal, CLI, PowerShell, ARM templates, Azure Arc) and monitoring tools (Azure Advisor, Service Health and Azure Monitor). Questions often ask you to tell two similar services apart: that is where most people slip.
With some IT experience, one to two weeks is enough; starting from zero, plan three or four. Take a diagnostic test first, go through the Microsoft Learn modules for your weakest block and practise by domain until your results are stable.

It is a fundamentals exam: it needs no hands-on Azure experience, but you must tell similar concepts and services apart precisely. People who only memorize definitions tend to miss the scenario questions.
45 minutes, according to Microsoft's official page. The passing score is 700 out of 1000.
Microsoft fundamentals certifications do not expire, unlike associate and expert certifications, which are renewed every year.

You need a scaled score of 700 out of 1000. The scale does not map to a fixed percentage of correct answers, so aim for consistent results above 80% on unseen mock exams before booking.
Yes. Microsoft offers AZ-900 in Spanish as well as English. On CertifyDeck every question, option and explanation is available in both languages, keeping the official English terminology.
It is a good free starting point, but it is short and repeats the same items. A practice test with hundreds of original Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals questions, timed mock exams and practice by domain tells you where you fail and whether you keep the level under time pressure.
