Built for people beginning to work with data in the cloud. Familiarity with relational and non-relational data concepts and with transactional and analytical workloads helps. It is not a prerequisite for any other certification.
DP-900 (Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals) checks that you understand core data concepts and Azure data services. It is a concepts exam for people beginning to work with data in the cloud; it is not a prerequisite for any other certification.
The outline has four blocks: core data concepts (25–30%), relational data on Azure (20–25%), non-relational data on Azure (15–20%) and analytics workloads (25–30%). It lasts 45 minutes.
Structured, semi-structured and unstructured data; file formats; transactional versus analytical workloads; and the database administrator, data engineer and data analyst roles. For relational data: normalization, common SQL statements, database objects and the Azure SQL family, plus the services for open-source databases.
For non-relational data: Blob Storage, Azure Files, Table Storage and Azure Cosmos DB with its APIs. For analytics: ingestion and processing, analytical data stores, Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, batch versus streaming data, and Power BI: its capabilities, its data models and which visualization suits each case.
If you already work with databases or Power BI, one to two weeks is usually enough; starting from zero, three or four. Start with a diagnostic test and spend more time on the two largest blocks: core concepts and analytics.
If data analysis is your goal, the natural next step is [PL-300](/certifications/pl-300). Start free to check your level: every question is original, written from the official documentation and carries its reference.

It is a good free starting point, but it is short and repeats the same items. A practice test with hundreds of original Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals questions, timed mock exams and practice by domain tells you where you fail and whether you keep the level under time pressure.
