AWS Certified Data Engineer - Associate (DEA-C01) validates that you can implement data pipelines on AWS and monitor, troubleshoot and optimize them for cost and performance: ingest and transform batch and streaming data, orchestrate pipelines, choose and model data stores and catalogs, manage data lifecycle and quality, automate, analyze and monitor pipelines, and apply authentication, authorization, encryption, privacy, governance and auditing to data.

A data engineer writes a Python job that loads millions of items into an Amazon DynamoDB table in provisioned capacity mode by calling BatchWriteItem directly. Every call returns successfully, but a validation step shows that some items are missing from the table during peak loads. What should the data engineer do to meet these requirements?

Data engineers with two to three years of data engineering experience and one to two years of hands-on experience with AWS services, fluent in SQL, a language such as Python and the fundamentals of data modelling and architecture.
AWS Certified Data Engineer - Associate (DEA-C01) checks that you can build data pipelines on AWS and operate them: ingest and transform batch and streaming data, orchestrate pipelines, choose and model data stores, keep data quality and security, and troubleshoot cost and performance.
The outline has four domains: data ingestion and transformation (34%), data store management (26%), data operations and support (22%) and data security and governance (18%).
Ingestion and transformation: Kinesis Data Streams, Amazon Data Firehose, MSK and Managed Service for Apache Flink; AWS Glue (ETL, Data Catalog, crawlers, bookmarks, DataBrew and Data Quality), EMR and Spark, Lambda, DMS, AppFlow and DataSync; orchestration with Step Functions, Amazon MWAA and EventBridge; SQL, Python and formats such as Parquet, Avro and Iceberg. Data stores: S3 storage classes and lifecycle, Redshift (Serverless, Spectrum, distribution and sort keys), DynamoDB, Aurora, RDS, OpenSearch and Lake Formation.
Operations: automation with CloudFormation and CDK, analysis with Athena and Amazon Quick, monitoring with CloudWatch and CloudTrail, and data quality. Security: IAM roles and policies, KMS and encryption, Secrets Manager, Macie, masking, Lake Formation permissions and auditing.
AWS recommends two to three years of data engineering experience and one to two with AWS. With that base, six to eight weeks is usually enough: read the official exam guide, review the Data Analytics Lens of the Well-Architected Framework and practise scenarios until you can spot which requirement rules out each option (operational overhead, cost or latency).

130 minutes and 65 questions, of which 50 are scored and 15 are not. AWS does not reveal which ones are unscored.
Scores range from 100 to 1,000 and the minimum to pass is 720. Scoring is compensatory: you do not need to pass each domain separately.
