Cost
The beta costs 75 USD, labeled by AWS as beta pricing. Outside the beta, Associate-level exams cost 150 USD (128 EUR in countries paying in euros), and AWS notes that taxes such as VAT may apply.
Each attempt is paid in full. If you already hold an AWS certification, your AWS Certification Account includes a 50% discount voucher you can use to recertify or for another exam.
Duration, questions and scoring
The beta lasts 170 minutes and has 85 questions. AWS explains that beta exams include extra items for statistical evaluation that do not affect your score, and the additional time accounts for them. If English is not your first language, you can request the "ESL +30" accommodation once, which adds 30 minutes to exams taken in English.
Questions are multiple choice (one correct answer and three distractors) or multiple response (two or more correct answers out of five or more options, and you must select all of them). Unanswered questions count as incorrect and there is no penalty for guessing. In the standard version, results are reported on a scale of 100 to 1,000 and the passing score is 720.
Languages and delivery
The beta is English only. Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese will be added at general availability.
You can take it at a Pearson VUE test center or online with a proctor from home or the office. Results, including beta results, arrive within five business days in your AWS Certification Account, under Exam History.
How to book, reschedule and retake
Sign in to aws.training, click Certification, then AWS Certification Account and Schedule New Exam. Find the exam and click Schedule at Pearson VUE to pick the date, time and delivery option. You must be at least 13; candidates aged 13 to 17 need consent from a parent or legal guardian.
You can cancel or reschedule at no cost up to 24 hours before the appointment, and reschedule at most twice. If you fail a standard exam, you wait 14 calendar days and pay again; there is no limit on attempts. The beta can be taken only once: to retake, you wait for the standard version.
Validity and renewal
The certification is valid for 3 years, including when you earn it through the beta. To renew, pass the latest version of the exam or AWS Certified Generative AI Developer - Professional, or maintain it for one more year with a paid AWS Skill Builder subscription.
