AB-730 is a beginner-level exam, but it does not ask for definitions: it describes a work situation with Microsoft 365 Copilot and asks for the most direct action among four that are all real features. Here are five questions from the CertifyDeck bank, spread across the three domains, with the answer and why the other three do not fit. They are summarized; the full versions are on the AB-730 sample questions page.
Generative AI fundamentals (25–30%): where, and with what context
Question 1. An operations manager preparing a project update wants to use the application's capabilities and the context of the document or meeting they are in. Options: explicitly reference the file or web source; use Copilot in the application where the task is done; use Copilot chat for a one-off request; create a custom agent. Answer: Copilot inside the application. Referencing a source provides authorized context, chat is for standalone requests and an agent is for a repeatable process; only Copilot in the app uses what you have open.
Question 2. A sales manager wants Copilot to answer using the permitted organizational context without tenant data being used to train models. Options: Copilot data protection; reference the file; use the chat; create an agent. Answer: Copilot data protection, the guarantee that responses are based on what the user can see and that data does not train foundation models. The other three are ways of working, not guarantees about data.
Question 3. A project manager needs to give Copilot the authorized context a response requires, without extra tools. Options: Copilot in the app; data protection; the chat; explicitly reference the file or web source. Answer: reference the source. It is the action whose purpose is exactly to bring specific, authorized context into a prompt.
Prompts and conversations (35–40%): what makes a prompt effective
Question 4. A financial analyst wants an effective prompt with measurable success criteria for a launch briefing. Options: save the prompt; specify goal, context, source, audience, constraints and output format; schedule the prompt; share the prompt. Answer: specify those elements. Saving, scheduling and sharing are prompt management (reuse, run automatically, hand to others), not what makes a prompt work.
This domain is the heaviest in the current outline and the one that changes most on 20 October 2026: model selection, Copilot memory and instructions come in, and creating agents goes out. We detail it in AB-730 changes on 20 October.
Business content (25–30%): create versus transform
Question 5. A project manager must draft new content when there is no source document to transform. Options: reference the source document and generate another from it; ask for an executive summary grounded in the source; move an insight to the target application; create a new document from a detailed prompt. Answer: create the document from a prompt. The other three start from existing content (transform it, summarize it or move it), and the scenario says there is none.
The create-transform-summarize-move distinction repeats across this domain with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. Once you are clear about the purpose of each, the questions answer themselves.
What they have in common
None requires a hidden fact. All ask you to pick the feature whose main purpose matches the scenario, and the three wrong options are always legitimate features that solve something else. The real exam lasts 45 minutes, is available in 13 languages and needs 700 out of 1,000. To measure where you stand, practice AB-730 by domain with an explanation on every answer; start free.
