AB-730 exam: duration, format, languages, price and how to book it

Before you book AB-730 it helps to know what Microsoft publishes on the official page: how long it is, which languages it is in, how it is scored, where to book it, what happens if you fail and what free material exists. Here is all of it as of 24 September 2026, plus what Microsoft does not publish.

1

Duration, scoring and format

The official page gives 45 minutes to complete the exam. It is proctored and Microsoft notes it may include interactive components. It does not publish the number of AB-730 questions; for a 45-minute exam you can expect noticeably fewer than in associate-level exams, but that is our estimate, not official data.

Scores run from 1 to 1,000 and 700 passes. It is scaled, not a percentage: 700 does not mean 70% correct. The official sandbox reproduces the interface and question types (single and multiple choice, ordering, scenarios) without real content; it deserves ten minutes before the exam.

2

Languages

AB-730 is offered in thirteen languages: English, Spanish, Arabic, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian. Keep in mind that localized versions are updated about eight weeks after the English one when the outline changes; with the 20 October 2026 update, non-English versions keep the current outline a little longer.

3

Price and booking

The price is set by the country or region where the exam is proctored and shows when you book. Microsoft notes it excludes taxes and program discounts (Microsoft Certified Trainer, partners) and can change without notice: check the amount when you pay. Beginner-level exams usually cost noticeably less than associate-level ones, but the exact figure comes from the booking.

Booking is done from the certification page on Microsoft Learn, through Pearson VUE, at a test center or from home with online proctoring. Microsoft recommends registering with a personal Microsoft account rather than a work one: if you leave the company, the history on a corporate account is lost and cannot be recovered. There is also the Exam Replay offer, which includes a second attempt.

4

If you fail, and whether it expires

After a first fail you can retake 24 hours later; from the second failed attempt on, the wait increases under Microsoft's policy. Each attempt is paid.

The AB-730 study guide only mentions annual renewal for associate, expert and specialty certifications; AB-730 is beginner level and the official page does not state an expiry. If in doubt, the certification page on Microsoft Learn is the source to check.

5

Free Microsoft material and practice

The certification page has a free practice assessment, the exam sandbox and a series of AB-730 prep videos recorded by Microsoft. The practice assessment helps you learn the question style and spot big gaps, not cover the outline.

To practise by domain with an explanation on every answer, start free with AB-730 on CertifyDeck. Before booking, review the outline by domain and, if your date falls after 20 October 2026, what changes in the exam.
